Uberaba, Brazil, October 29, 2016 – Argentina and hosts Brazil are the only two countries still undefeated out of the six teams in the U20 Women’s South American Championship. The two teams will face off against each other on Saturday.
The whole competition is being broadcast live on the South American Volleyball Confederation website www.voleysur.org.
The winner of the gold medal will earn a berth in next year’s World Championship in Mexico.
On the third day of this round-robin tournament, Uruguay obtained their first victory by defeating Paraguay 3-1 (20-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-19). Camila Bausero topped the scoring with 29 points, while Diana Acosta scored 17 for Paraguay. Uruguay led in spiking (56-33) and serving (9-7), while Paraguay scored one more point in blocking (11-10).
Undefeated rivals Argentina and Peru clashed next with Argentina prevailing 3-1 (29-31, 25-21, 25-20, 25-23). Anahi Tosi topped-scored for Argentina in the evenly fought match with 21 points while the best scorer of the match was Kiara Montes from Peru with 23.
Brazil breezed past Chile in straight sets (25-11, 25-18, 25-6). Brazil’s powerful spike did not give their rivals any chance even with many substitute players on the court. Brazil dominated spiking (35-16), blocking (11-3) and serving (13-5). Giovana Viesel topped the scorers with 11 tallies followed by Glayce Kelly with 10.
