European women gearing up for U20 world champ qualifiers

 

2015 bronze medallists Italy have already qualified for the 2017 U20 world champs

Luxemburg, November 11, 2016 – The best of Europe’s U20 women’s team will be pitched into action early in 2017 when they compete in the European qualifiers for the FIVB Volleyball Women’s U20 World Championship. 

The confirmation of the pools came following a Drawing of Lots which held on Thursday at the CEV headquarters in Luxembourg.

The first round of qualifiers will take place in four locations across the continent from January 5-8 from where the top four teams and three best-placed second ranked teams will qualify for the second round that takes place from May 18-21.



In the second round teams are divided into two pools and the top teams will qualify for the U20 World Championship, which will be held in Boca Del Rio and Cordoba in Mexico from July 7-16. 

Italy and Serbia have already qualified for the World Championship due to them being in the top five of the FIVB Rankings. Reigning U19 European champions Russia will start in the second qualifying round. 

1st Round – January 5-8, 2017 
Pool A: Latvia (host), Germany, Croatia, Denmark 
Pool B: Turkey (host), Bulgaria, Finland, Austria 
Pool C: Romania (host), France, Netherlands, Estonia 
Pool D: Portugal (host), Belgium, Poland 

2nd Round – May 18-21, 2017 
Pool E: 1st Pool A, 1st Pool D, 2nd Best 2nd Placed from Round 1, Best 2nd Placed from Round 1 
Pool F: Russia, 1st Pool C, 1st Pool B, 3rd Best 2nd Placed from Round 1
